Which Team Are You?

Whenever there's a love triangle (and they seem to popping up a lot in YA fiction) people like to choose their favourite love interest. Some examples...

1. Twilight: Edward vs Jacob
I'm not that into Twilight anymore, but I'd pick Jacob. That best mirrors the choice I made in real life :-)

2. The Vampire Diaries: Stefan vs Damon
Damon, of course! He's the bad boy, I know, the very bad boy, but when you start to see the caring side of him... And just look at him!

3. The Mortal Instruments: Jace vs Simon
Team Jace all the way! If you haven't read these books, go read! Now!

 4. The Infernal Devices: Will vs Jem
I have yet to get my hands on Clockwork Angel so I haven't picked my team yet...
(Two weeks after ordering this my online provider of books informed me that their supplier does not have stock. How dare they not have stock? Unacceptable!!)

5. Paranormalcy: Lend vs Reth
Seriously. Who would pick a psychotic faerie? I'm with Lend!

One reason for all the love triangles in YA fiction is that the main characters are young and still figuring out what kind of people they are. Hence, they're also still figuring out what type of guy/girl they should be with. So their journeys of self-discovery are often mirrored by their journeys with the different love interests, until they reach a point where they know themselves well enough to know which guy/girl to choose.

And, of course, there's the immediate conflict created by having more than one love interest :-)

Hmm, a thought: Am I correct in saying that there are far more 1 girl + 2 guys triangles than there are 1 guy + 2 girls triangles?

Wanna tell me which teams you're on?!

I've not read any of those books, so I have no idea which team I'm one. But as a general rule, I go with the ones I relate to the best:)

I haven't read any of these except for CLOCKWORK ANGEL -- and I kind of love both Jem and Will there. I'm Team Peeta all the way in HUNGER GAMES, though!

I've noticed the 1 girl + 2 guys thing, too. Which is funny, because in my high school, there were a lot more 1 guy + 2 girls triangles going down in my school. I wonder if all the books writing them are escapist, or turning reality on its head, or just like it better with 1 girl as the focus?

When I read the TWILIGHT books, I was Team Edward. AFter New Moon, I just couldn't stand Jacob. Then with PARANORMALCY, Team Lend. I'm with you ... who wants a psychotic fairy? But, I still did like Reth. I can't comment on the others.

I think to have more 1 guy + 2 girls triangles, we'd need to see more male MCs. I'm not saying they're not out there, but everything that's come out lately has had a female MC.

Also, I think having a girl between 2 guys is kinda expected -- we as a society view it as acceptible. A guy between 2 girls -- he's a playboy or whatever else you want to call him. A guy just can't get away with dating two girls and still have the romantic quality stay intact.

I thought I liked both Jacob and Edward and I do but when I watched the extras on New Moon I was only interested in seeing the Edward bits. I really like Jacob, he looks like a great laugh and a lovely person, but I obviously go for the angst ridden vampire types LOL!
I just finished 'Breaking Dawn' and enjoyed it more than I expected though the ending was a little disappointing somehow.

I don't like either Jacob or Edward, but if I had to choose, I *guess* I would say Jacob. At least he can be human.

Stefan. Really, I never saw what other people seemed to be seeing . . . I mean, Damon just seemed like a really opportunistic person through most of it.

JACE, definitely.

Twilight: Edward!
Vampire Diaries: Tough one, though Stefan's a little bit to whiny for my taste. Team Damon (though I have to roll my eyes on that name...)
Mortal Instrument: Uhm...I don't like Jace, but Clarie and Simon just don't belong together. I'll just say Team Magnus! For Alec ;)

I have not seen/ read Vampire Diaries, Paranormalcy, but I am an enthusiastic member of Team Edward , Team Jem (though I've heard rumors that Jem might be batting for the other team in future books) and Team Simon!

Oh man... I like Stefan and Damon for different reasons, but LOOK AT THEM.

And seriously. Damon. Wow. Just... wow.

Don't tell my husband. ;)

(Oh, but I'm sure he's ogling Elena at the same time... LOL)

I'm not for any team in particular but you are right about not many 1 boy + 2 girls! I wonder why?

Hi Rachel. I saw you mentioned over at Merieke's blog and thought I'd stop by to say hello. Nice to meet you, I've enjoyed my visit. As to which teams I'm on - I have only ever seen the Twlight films and would have to say I'd be for Jacob (Give me someone nice and warm to cuddle up with any time)

Jacob all the way. Definitely Jace. I agree that no one would want Reth!

I'm definitely Team Lend, Team Will, Team Jace, and Team Daemon, but I couldn't care less about Jacob or Edward haha. There's a blog award waiting for you on my site too: http://writersblocknz.weebly.com/awards-etc.html

I'll give you my laundry list, Team Damon; Team Jace are my definite, absolutely no contest choices. With Paranormalcy.... I loved Reth as a character (he was so interesting! I love crazy people!) but Lend for romantic interest but sometimes was wishing Reth had more screentime.....

As far as Clockwork Angel goes... so far, this is the first love triangle I've read where I honestly can't decide who I want the winner to be right from the get go. In my mind they are equally balanced - even though will had more on screen time. Clare has accomplished what so many triangles fail to do. She has gotten me invested in such a way that I just.don't.know!

I chose neither Edward or Jacob. I actually really enjoyed the Twilight books but I feel like both Edward and Jacob are flawed in ways that make them completely undesirable to me.

Rachel, I'm glad you already saw your re"award"! (and I fixed your name--Rachel!)Your blog is one of my faves, too. I think I mentioned it in emails to erica about 10 times yesterday. I've been itching to "redecorate" the blog! AND now I can't wait to read Paranormalcy and the others you've mentioned. I love Love Triangles! Twilight Books: Edward, movies: Jacob (or maybe that was more Team Rob vs. Team Taylor hmmm....) So thanks for giving me the itch to make a run to the bookstore! (christy) So behind in reading great books!
