Book Cover Trends: The Grey, Red and White of New Adult and Adult Fiction

When I set out to write this post, I thought I'd be using maybe five or six covers. But after some searching I've come up with FOURTEEN! And though I didn't find them all in the same place, I think it's possible that all except one come from the same cover designer. (Okay Creations)

So. Have you noticed all the recent books with grey, red & white color schemes? (I'm somewhat of a book cover junkie, so I look out for these things ;-) ) If you haven't, take a look below...

Kinda makes me feel like I need to get me a grey, red and white book cover!

2013/04/03 Update
Just found another two from the same cover designer!

Fairy Tale Fortnight is Happening Now!

The third annual Fairy Tale Fortnight (hosted by Misty at The Book Rat and Bonnie at A Backwards Story) is currently taking place from March 24th to April 6th. It's a celebration of all things fairy tale and fairy tale-esque.  Every day you can visit Misty and Bonnie's blog and find numerous fairy tale goodies, ranging from reviews and discussions to giveaways (so many!), interviews, guest posts, vlogs and more!

As an author of a fairy tale-esque novel, I'll be featured on Misty's blog next week. Yay! Now you need to head on over there and check out some of the awesome stuff that's already been posted :-)

Sign Up to Help Reveal the Cover of THE FAERIE PRINCE (CREEPY HOLLOW, #2)

Earlier in the year I was trying to decide whether the second Creepy Hollow novel should be released BEFORE or AFTER the A to Z Challenge (because it really shouldn't happen DURING the challenge!). I thought I'd be getting a lot more writing done this year, but in the past few months I've had some "delays" due to...

1. searching for a local printer for my first book
2. getting my first book into local bookstores and libraries (squee! And hence the need for no. 1.)
3. getting a puppy (ohmygoodness he's so cute but a lot of work!)
4. and ... I'm sure there was something else.

Anyway, so the release will definitely be AFTER the A to Z Challenge. The date I'm aiming for is

Thursday May 30th

In the meantime, a cover reveal is needed! And this is scheduled for

Tuesday April 2nd

If you'd like to help by revealing the cover on your blog (pleasepleaseplease!), then please fill in the form below with your email address and a few other details so I can send you the cover info.

If you can't see the embedded form, click here.

THANK YOU!
As a token of my gratitude, here is a picture of my completely adorable puppy.
His name is Flapjack :-)
(Try not to look into his eyes - he'll convince you to do ANYTHING for him!)

P.S. Also ... after telling people that I wouldn't be taking part in the A to Z Challenge, and then announcing on my blog that I WOULD be taking part ... well, I've now decided that I definitely can't (good thing I hadn't yet added my name to the sign-up list!). I want THE FAERIE PRINCE to be as awesome as possible, so that means no distractions in April!

Creative Writing Talk at St Mary's School

On Monday night, I was fortunate enough to speak at the launch of a book club at St Mary's DSG (my very first speaking engagement! The first of many, I hope!). The Grade 8 and 9 girls had decorated the room beautifully to match the colours of my book cover - purple, pink and blue! And there was sparkly stuff because, you know, MAGIC!

I don't know what this room normally looks like, but on Monday night it was gorgeous.

Isn't that cool?!

Getting ready to talk...

Sharing the joys of Pinterest!

Look, I'm signing a book!

Pajamas + faerie wings = awesome combo!

With some students and teachers.

More sparkly decorations!
I've missed speaking to young people since I left teaching at the end of last year, so it was really cool to speak to these girls. They had great questions and fantastic ideas about where to take their newly launched book club in the future. KEEP READING AND WRITING, GIRLS, and THANK YOU FOR INVITING ME!

Wedding Photos!

Last week I showed you the beautiful box our photographs came in as an example of branding. This week you get to see some of the actual photos! We have over 400, but NEVER FEAR, I would not subject you to that many! So here are a few, with captions underneath :-)

Every table was slightly different, making use of old silver, glass, books and loads of flowers!

We used old books as part of the decor on the tables. I loved that!

The menu was stuck onto the front of a book.

Not posed. Our photographer was awesome at catching moments like this one!

I loved my dress from the moment I first put it on. The detail was amazing!

This mirror is the exact same mirror that my mom had a photo in when she was a bride :-)

The hair stylist did a fantastic job with our hair!

All that build up to this moment, and walking down the aisle seemed to go so quickly!

These ducks were gorgeous. They waddled around throughout the entire ceremony!

*sigh* Love my dress!

Love, love, love this one with my beautiful bridesmaids!

Fun in the water!

His groomsmen wrote underneath his shoes and he had no idea till after the ceremony!

I always wanted to have wedding photos in a forest. I got my wish :-)

Love :-)

Saw this idea on Pinterest and had to try it out!
