cell phone + data bundle + blue tooth + laptop with battery
+ tech-minded boyfriend = temporary internet access!
So. I sat down to write—right now—and nonsense spewed forth from my normally sane fingertips...
Sweets and Mars
and spun glass jars,
quidditch games
and glitter stars.
Jelly beans
and kings and queens,
rubber ducks
and silver dreams.
Elephant tails
and ghostly wails,
fairy dust
and tasty snails.
Candy canes
And bright blue flames,
little men
with golden manes.
Bang!
I wasn’t sure how to end it. Bang! seemed like a good option :-)
This post of nonsense was inspired by Rachael Harrie’s first Crusader Challenge. Click on over to this post to find out more about the Writers’ Online Platform-Building Crusade. You too could be a part of it!
So let’s just review...
1. Wrote a post beginning with “I sat down to write the other day and...” – check!
2. Included the random words, Mars, quidditch and elephant – check!
3. Link back to the original post – check!
4. Following ALL my fellow crusaders – check!
5. Put a blogroll of the crusaders’ blogs on my blog – check!
Looks like I’m all done! So, from the (literally) darkest tip of Africa, I bid you good night :-)

Great post Rachel, love the poem!!! You go gir! :)
Loved it, Rachel!!
"Bang!" is a fabulous ending. I may end all my sentences that way from now on. Great poem; I love it!
I love the ending to that poem! "Bang!" is perfect. :D
Cute poem! "Bang!" is the perfect ending. Loved it!
That's too bad about your electricity though.
I love that! I would end with "with golden manes" though - it's a good ending line to a poem.
I'm gonna read it again!
A delightful poem. Very enjoyable. Uplifting! :O)
Thank you everyone for the comments!
I have a confession about the Bang...
I was scribbling my nonsense into a notebook and began to whine about how I couldn't figure out how to end it. So tech-minded boyfriend looked up from his game of cards (real, tangible cards. No electricity, remember?!) and said, "With a bang?"
I love the poem, Rachel! :)
Apparently I commented on almost none of the posts, shame on me! Loved this! :D
Loved that - haven't written for the challenge yet, but this one inspired me!
when in doubt, end with a bang. (i'll kee that in mind!) especially when the boyfriend suggests it! could never have been so creative by the light of the candle. great poem! i'm a little late reading it, but better late than never! i'm glad you participated, with or without electricity! christy
Excellent Rachael, loved this crazy poem!
I love it. Great poem - and the ending with a literal 'bang' has me chuckling at the keyboard.
Good on you for getting the tech-minded boyfriend onto the task of connecting you to the internet despite a blackout! Where there's a will there's a way...
I like the poem. It has a good flow, the images are entertaining and appealing; an ode to absurdism.
"Bang!" is how I always feel, or say out loud, whenever I finished writing a new post. It's something like 'bingo!', isn't it?
And you've hit the bullseye here!
So glad you're all loving the bang!
Tech-minded boyfriend is feeling very pleased with himself for his popular contribution ;-)
I had to come by and see your winning post from the first challenge. I'm with everyone else! I love the poem! I would totally have voted for you had I been a crusader WAY back then ;-). You're awesome.
