First Loves Blogfest

Today I'm multitasking: I'm guest-posting over at Rach Harrie's blog:

and it's Alex J Cavanaugh's fabulous First Loves Blogfest!

~  ~  ~

First Movie - Fantasia
Possibly a strange choice for a young child (but then, maybe not?!). Having a musician for a grandfather, I was brought up with a love and appreciation of classical music. Add to that my love of fantastical creatures and stories, and it probably makes complete sense that I fell in love with this movie and watched it so many times the tape stretched!

First Music - The Spice Girls
As embarrassing as it is to admit, the first band/group I remember loving is the Spice Girls. Um ... yeah. Let's leave it at that!

First Book - The Famous Five: Five on a Treasure Island
The Famous Five books are the first full length books I remember reading (and loving) when I first learnt how to read :-) Doesn't every child dream about going on great adventures where the children are always the heroes? Well, I did!

First Person - The Physics Tutor
It feels pretty weird to write about this considering I just got engaged to an AWESOME guy who happens to NOT be the first guy I loved ... Kinda like I'm betraying him somehow! So I'll make this quick. I met the first guy I loved in my first year of university. He was a PhD student tutoring the physics course that some of my friends were taking. He also happened to be ten years older than me! We were together for over three years, but in the end things got (enter: cliché) complicated!
Now I am with a super guy who's about to become a doctor of biochemistry -- and I can't stop staring at the sparkliness on my left ring finger!

~  ~  ~

Thank you, Ninja Captain Alex, for giving us a reason to share our first loves so we can all get to know each other a little better :-)

You made me laugh with the last one. All great first loves.

Ha! I feel you. I was engaged to someone else while in college but we broke it off when it got 'complicated' and I met my husband a year and a half later. He's still a little bitter he didn't make it into the 'first love' slot. But he's the only love that counts for me!

Excuse me while I go and laugh at the hilarity of your Spice Girls confession. hehehe don't worry, I've loved daggy music in my time - still do actually! hehe. My bro was a huge Spice fan :D

Great answers...and guess what? I never saw FANTASIA. But now I want to! I love Disney.

Alex J. Cavanaugh said...

Are you going to let your husband read your answer then?
Thanks for participating in my blogfest!

Girl Power!
Fantasia is a great first.
And I was also Hot For Teacher in my youth.

My first band was New Kids on the Block. You're in good company. I see you like science guys, Spock fan by any chance?

Annalisa Crawford said...

Golly - you like the Famous Five too! We should open up the ginger beer and find a gypsy caravan at once! Well, obviously Anne won't, she'll be far too busy cooking and washing up :-)

Yeah, I felt weird about posting my first love as well since it wasn't my husband that I'm happily married to. But, it was experience and I am wiser for it so I can't regret it. Fantasia is such an amazing movie, it is definately one of my favorites as well.

LOL Physics tutor! I don't remember ever crushing on a professor/teacher ...
OMG, I love Spice Girls! I wish they were still together!

Charity Bradford said...

LOL, great stuff Rachel! I've never heard of the Famous Five and will have to look them up.

Most people don't marry their first loves, so don't feel bad.

BTW, congratulations again on the engagement!

Visiting from the First Loves Blogfest and I also read your guest post on Rach Writes earlier this morning. Great advice over there! I also saw Fantasia in the theaters (I think I was about 10) and will forever love the Mickey Mouse as the apprentice scene and the music that goes with it. As for your first love, I too did not marry mine and with so many out there who did, it does feel a little strange to write about someone else. You did a much better job than I did as I was totally at a loss for what to say after his name. Would hate to hurt my wonderful husband's feelings. Your fiancee sounds wonderful! All the best to you both.

I can definitely relate to the love of Fantasia and The Spice Girls!

Congratulations on your engagement!

Fantasia, such a wonderful movie!

And, Spice Girls, all I can say is there's a dad at my kids school who refers to me as 'Sporty Spice' every time I show up in tennis clothes!

Kyra Lennon said...

I am loving how many Dirty Dancing fans I've seen today! It was my first movie love too! :D

Tasha Seegmiller said...

Spice girls? I guess they were super popular. I actually didn't see Dirty Dancing until late high school/early college. I'm certain it was because my mom was afraid I would end up pregnant or something.

Nicole said...

I never saw Fantasia but was a fan of the Spice Girls when they came out. I have their movie and wanted a Scary Spice doll so bad when I was a kid, lol. Unfortunately, I never received one but did manage to snag a Britney Spears doll.

Those Five on a Treasure Island books seem vaguely familiar...I think they were on the bookshelf when I was growing up but am not sure if I read any of them. Congratulations on your engagement!

Your first is your first, I mean, we can't go back and change the people who we fell in love with, so it's no betrayal...just look at it as a glimpse into what was as you put that behind you, making room for what is and what will be with your upcoming hubby :)

Enid Blyton sure knew how to keep us occupied.. Never seen Fantasia.
Growing up in conservative India, I did like Spice girls, thought they were cool with their dresses and hairdos.
Most first loves just make good memories.

Omg, I LOVED Fantasia! I remember seeing it in the movie theatre. Ha, Spice Girls ;p

I remember seeing Fantasia in theaters and loving it! Also, one of my favourite books as a kid was The Magic Faraway Tree by Enid Blyton. She has this way of captivating the imagination!

Some great first loves, and who wouldn't love Fantasia--Disney at its best :)

Lol, Fantasia made my list too. It's totally not weird. I used to sit down and watch the whole thing, and then ask my mom to start it over. :)

Enid Blyton is popular writer when it comes to books in this blogfest. Fantasia is an excellent choice. Love your post.

I love Fantasia SO MUCH. It was one of my favorite movies as a kid, especially the part with the pegasi .

Just stopped in from Rach's blog to say congrats on being blitzed today!

Great firsts post! I laughed with the last one too. Though, an older tutor is like a YA fantasy!

Laura Josephsen said...

Ooh, I think I had one of the Famous Five books, but it's been soooo long since I read it. I might still have it on my shelf somewhere.

Congrats again on your engagement! That's soooo exciting! :D

Congratulations on your engagement!

I'm so glad I missed this blogfest because I would have been forced to admit my first music love was probably John Schnieder (you know the blonde from Dukes of Hazzard).

Sorry I'm late.
That's the second Fantasia that I've seen. I guess it's a good one to pick! Spice Girls? Well? Not sure about that one. :)
Thanks for sharing with us.

Thank God for complications, huh?

My daughter loved Fantasia also. And you never knew what was going to be blaring out of her bedroom - Phantom of the Opera or Godsmack!

Fantasia is an interesting movie. Haven't watched it in a while--now I feel like doing so. :)

Great post!

The first book that I really remember loving would be The Never-Ending Story. I can remember feeling so proud because the librarian said she wouldn't normally lend it to someone my age, but she'd make an exception for me. :-)

The Spice Girls. That makes you all the more awesome. They were pretty good. I'll have to check out this First Loves blog fest.

Hi again Rachel - got an award for ya:

Have you seen the fairly modern Fantasia? If I'm correct it was called the Sorcerer's Apprentice. Great fun.
