Creative Writing Talk at St Mary's School

On Monday night, I was fortunate enough to speak at the launch of a book club at St Mary's DSG (my very first speaking engagement! The first of many, I hope!). The Grade 8 and 9 girls had decorated the room beautifully to match the colours of my book cover - purple, pink and blue! And there was sparkly stuff because, you know, MAGIC!

I don't know what this room normally looks like, but on Monday night it was gorgeous.

Isn't that cool?!

Getting ready to talk...

Sharing the joys of Pinterest!

Look, I'm signing a book!

Pajamas + faerie wings = awesome combo!

With some students and teachers.

More sparkly decorations!
I've missed speaking to young people since I left teaching at the end of last year, so it was really cool to speak to these girls. They had great questions and fantastic ideas about where to take their newly launched book club in the future. KEEP READING AND WRITING, GIRLS, and THANK YOU FOR INVITING ME!

That room looked so cool. And so did you signing those books. You're lucky you were a teacher. It probably helps with the public speaking. I'm pretty scared of that part of being an author even if I am an attorney.

That place looks lovely, and you look gorgeous, Rachel.
I only ever do workshops, never a speaking engagement!

That's so cool! I guess being a teacher makes you immune to the shivering nervousness that I'd experience in that situation :-)

Definitely not immune, Annalisa! It certainly helped, but I was still nervous!
