Amazon's New Kindle Devices

I've been absent from the blogosphere for the past few days - it's EXAM WEEK at school! Yippee! (Note sarcasm.) I may have missed a few things (like the 162 entries that have so far been written for the 2nd Campaigner Challenge) but I did NOT miss the fact that Amazon released several new devices yesterday!

I was pretty excited about the Kindle Fire. I mean, I've always liked the iPad, but it's a little pricey. The Kindle Fire is more affordable. Yay!

BUT

Does Amazon ship the Kindle Fire to South Africa? No. Does it ship to anywhere other than the US? No. I take back the "yay". And it appears that the Kindle Touch doesn't ship outside of the US either. Anyway, at the end of the day all I actually want to do is read books, so a basic Kindle would be fine for me.

So I bought one! Yay!

(To all of you who already own a Kindle, now would be a good time to tell me how fabulous you think it is so that I know I've made a good decision!)

I haven't made the kindle jump yet. I just don't read enough to fork out that much money on the device and then the book. I know I'll get one in time. Some help I am, eh? :)

OOOOH! I love the ipad but don't think I can afford one right now. Maybe the kindle fire is up my alley! YAY! I'm going to check it out.

And I hope you did good with your exams. I mostly have papers due right now and lots of crazy reading.

I have a 2nd gen Kindle and I love it a lot! You made a good decision. The new Kindles are slick-looking.

As for myself, I pre-ordered a Kindle Fire. ;D I've been in the market for a tablet but the iPad's price has been a sticking point for me. But finally! Amazon decided to attack the lower end of the market. I'm very excited.

What a pity they don't ship the Kindle Fire outside of the US. That counts me out too. I'm looking forward to your review of the standard Kindle - I've been umm'ing and ahh'ing about whether to get one for ages! :-)

Hi Rachel,
Yes, you made the right decision. I own an ipad, which is very heavy for reading (great for apps, though). So I bought a simple Kindle. I would not trade it for one of the upgrades. It is light and perfect for reading anywhere.

Yay, these are the kind of responses I wanted to hear :-) Thanks, book lovers.

Hey, I don't have one either. But I'm guessing you made the right decision. Now, get busy on that entry for challenge 2. You have 2 days. We're not in the same group because the fantasy groups were filled when I joined, but I do fantasy MG/YA too, also SF. One of my WIP's is a paranormal. I'm number 52 in the challenge, & there's a chocolate contest tab for followers.

I lost my Kindle some months ago. I put off buying a new one because of the rumors over Amazon's announcement. I decided to buy the Kindle Touch with 3G, since after the original higher price, the 3G service is free. (Note: This is the touch reader, not their tablet.) I still have to decide whether to get their tablet -- the rumor is they'll have newer, improved tablets next year.

I am "test-driving" my friend's kindle and I'm loving it so far. It has greatly contributed to my reading the lot I got from NetGalley and even my other ebooks. And surprise, surprise, my eyes didn't hurt at all even if I would read for hours. My only worry now is how I'd be able to live without it once I return it to my friend. Too bad, Amazon doesn't ship to the Philippines or I would have gotten myself one already. Hehe

Hope you're having fun with your kindle.1 ;)

thetravelingreader - The Philippines, hmm... Do you have any friends/family in the US? Then you could have the Kindle shipped to them and they could ship it to you.
PS. I am very, very happy with my Kindle!
