Winter in Durban generally isn't a big deal. Sure, you get some chilly days, but you also get days where you see people walking around in shorts and T-shirts. So we get super excited about stuff like snow because in Durban it never happens!
Last night there was a storm. A big one. It hailed. Now, we get hail in Durban sometimes, that's not too weird, but I have NEVER seen this much hail! It looks kinda like snow! (Which, of course, makes me excited!) It was scary, though. I mean, that much hail, for that long? The poor plants, and the cars, and the people who don't have homes...
I know you guys in the northern hemisphere deal with this (and for worse) every single winter. But yeah, it was a big deal for us :-)

That is an incredible amount of hail! That kind of hail in a few of the places I've lived would mean a tornado was about to descend upon us.
Fortunately, South Africa isn't tornado territory. Well, that's the way it's been so far, and I hope it stays that way!
That looks like a ton of hail.
That's amazing... it looks like facets of diamond-like ice twinkling in the subdued light.
That's a great photo - it would look great as a Christmas card!
We get hail in the summertime. In the mountains it can come down pretty hard so that people have to have body work done on their cars! Something strange just happened near here where there was 4 feet of hail! Strange weather patterns, huh?
Oh! Awesome! I can't imagine living there... wow...
Wow! That is a lot of hail. I hope it didn't cause too much damage.
Sounds like Durban's very like Perth, where I live - we only ever get hail too :)
Oh, I’m glad that you *almost* have snow. =) I think snow is so much fun. It inspires fun stories about curling up by the fire and figuring stuff out.
