Teaser Tuesday (22): Soul Thief

Title: Soul Thief (Demon Trappers, #2)
Author: Jana Oliver

Riley dug in her messenger bag, retrieved a pen, and began a list on a crisp white napkin.

Find Dad
Bust Holy Water Scam
Save the World
Buy Groceries
Do Laundry

As she saw it, if number three on the list didn't work out, the last two weren't going to be an issue.

Okay, so that wasn't exactly two sentences. More like two sentences with a list in between. So ... yeah. ANYWAY, I really enjoyed the first book in this series, The Demon Trapper's Daughter. I love Riley's voice :-) Still getting into this one, but I'm hoping to love it just as much!

Teaser Tuesday (21): Oppression

Title: Oppression
Author: Jessica Therrien

"How do you find these kinds of secret places?" I asked.
"People with secrets need places to keep them."

Oooh! Secrets! And that's why they call it a teaser ;-)

It gives me great pleasure to post a teaser written by someone whose blog and publication journey I've been following for a while now. OPPRESSION is released later this month!

Title: The Iron King
Author: Julie Kagawa

We were born of the dreams and fears of mortals, and if we are remembered, even in some small way, we will always exist.

~

"What in Pan's privates is this?" the goblin chief snorted.

So there you have it: one line of magical beauty, and another of, uh, less beauty! (But it sure did make me laugh!)

Last week on Teaser Tuesday I had just got GUARDIAN onto Goodreads and added it to a few listopia lists. Thank you to all of you for adding GUARDIAN to you to-read lists, and for voting on the listopia lists! GUARDIAN has reached:

#3 out of 65 in New Series (2012) (It actually got to #1 for a little bit! Thanks, guys!)
#120 out of 270 in Amazing Covers of 2012

Teaser Tuesday (19): Clockwork Prince

Title: Clockwork Prince
Author: Cassandra Clare

"I promise to charm the dickens out of him," said Will, sitting up and readjusting his crushed hat. "I shall charm him with such force that when I am done, he will be left lying limply on the ground, trying to remember his own name."
"The man's eighty-nine," muttered Jem. "He may well have that problem anyway."

I almost laughed out loud when I read those lines ;-)

GUARDIAN is now on Goodreads! And while I was having fun playing around on the Goodreads site, I added my darling baby to three lists:

Indie Books - Paranormal Cover Love (#108 out of 199)
Amazing Covers of 2012 (#162 out of 255)
New Series 2012 (#12 out of 45)

It would be awesome (read as: pleasepleaseplease!) if you could vote for one (or, you know, all!) of those lists! Especially the New Series 2012 one. Since it's short I have a good chance of actually getting somewhere on it!

I also have a countdown widget now. Pretty cool (and a little scary!) to see the time ticking away until GUARDIAN is officially available to all... If you're interested in adding the countdown widget to your sidebar, copy and past the following purple text into an HTML gadget under the Layout tab on your blog. Thank you!!

<script type="text/javascript" src="http://cdn.widgetserver.com/syndication/subscriber/InsertWidget.js"></script><script type="text/javascript">if (WIDGETBOX) WIDGETBOX.renderWidget('7644e9df-bec2-4159-b829-ff2d7b7d7361');</script>

Title: Exiled
Author: RaShelle Workman

Through weighty eyelids, she peered at herself in the glass and noticed a line of thick, blue liquid streaming from the charm around her neck. She reached up and touched the substance.

Teaser Tuesday (16): Speak

Title: Speak
Author: Laurie Halse Anderson

I'm saved by a Centro bus. It coughs and rumbles and spits out two old women in front of the grocery store.

I know, I know, I should have read this book already, but better late than never!

I really like the way this book is written, like a whole bunch of small scenes stuck together to make Melinda's story. It is fascinating to read about how she sees the world and labels the things around her. I am really enjoying (is that the right word to use with this kind of story? Well you know what I mean) it, especially as this is a character I find myself relating very strongly to.

Teaser Tuesday (15): String Bridge

Title: String Bridge
Author: Jessica Bell

Moonlight pelts down on my face like a torch. I roll over and face the wall where darkness paints shadows I can sleep in.

I could have opened to any page in this book and found a beautifully constructed line to "tease" you with. It is full of wonderful imagery, and Jessica makes it seem effortless...

Teaser Tuesday (14): Past Perfect

Title: Past Perfect
Author: Leila Sales

I glared at him. "You came all the way to Essex just to spy on us?"
"Yeah." He smirked. "I crossed the street. It was really rough."

Ah, I do like a good bit of sarcasm... :-)

Teaser Tuesday (13): The Body Finder

Title: The Body Finder
Author: Kimberly Derting

Thick, pale, and bloated skin surrounded milky-white eyes that stared out at Violet.
...
Violet screamed at the same time that Jay reached her and saw what she was looking at. He wrapped his arms around her from behind and dragged her away in search of help.

I am LOVING this book! If it weren't for the fact that I'm already sick from lack of sleep I would have stayed up till the early hours of the morning to finish this in one go!
(And the cover is so pretty! I love it!)

Teaser Tuesday (12): Red Glove

This teaser is for all those who have also read Cassie Clare's Mortal Instruments series and who know that Cassie and Holly are critique parterns and therefore borrowing one another's characters for a few sentences is ok!

Title: Red Glove
Author: Holly Black

"That stoner dude, Jace, says he hooked up with someone over the summer," Kevin whispers. "But I hear all the pictures he's showing around are really pictures of his half sister. Fifty bucks says there's no girlfriend."
"Find someone to be that he did hook up or does have a girlfriend and I'll give you the odds," I say. "The house doesn't bet."

(eGalley)

I had a little chuckle when I read those lines :-)
If you haven't read the Mortal Instruments you won't get why (so go read them! They're awesome!).

Teaser Tuesday (11): Red Glove

Title: Red Glove
Author: Holly Black

"It sounds like you've really got some plan cooked up," I say.
"Oh, come on," she demands. "School starts in less than a week. Don't you want to have some fun?"

 (eGalley)

I really, really enjoyed WHITE CAT by Holly Black and I've so been looking forward to reading RED GLOVE. I'm only a few pages in, but it's great so far :-)

Authors: Kami Garcia & Margaret Stohl

But behind all that, there was something I couldn't remember. It was there, lingering in the back of my mind.

Teaser Tuesday (9): I Am Number Four

Title: I Am Number Four
Author: Pittacus Lore

I close my fists and place them in my lap. They're burning and shaking. I open my hands. My left palm is bright red, my right is still glowing.

Still very much enjoying this book! If I didn't have lessons to prepare, my blog to keep up with, and (duh) my own writing to do, I would have read far more of this already!

Teaser Tuesday (8): I Am Number Four

Title: I Am Number Four
Author: Pittacus Lore

I was sitting on the edge of the pontoon with my feet in the water, talking to a cute dark-haired, blue-eyed girl named Tara, when I felt it coming. The water around my leg started boiling, and my lower leg started glowing where the scar was imbedding itself.

I've been looking forward to reading this book for quite some time. I haven't read much yet, but so far I'm enjoying it!

Teaser Tuesday (7): The Red Pyramid

Title: The Red Pyramid
Author: Rick Riordan

I just love family meetings. Very cosy, with the Christmas garlands around the fireplace and a nice pot of tea and a detective from Scotland Yard ready to arrest you.

Anyone read this book? Or have you read the Percy Jackson series? I haven't got too far with this one yet, but if you're thinking that it's the same as Percy's story except with Egyptian gods instead of Greek gods, well, it's not! So far though, I think I can say I enjoyed the Percy Jackson books more.

Teaser Tuesday (6): Revolution

Title: Revolution
Author: Jennifer Donnelly

I'm not sure how to feel about this. Embarrassed? Pissed off? I mean, I just sang him a song I wrote myself, a song that's really important to me, and he fell asleep.

I am really enjoying this book. I saw it in the bookstore, picked it up and read the back and thought, Hmm, looks interesting. So I pulled out my phone and went to GoodReads to check out what people thought of it and when I typed in the title this is the picture that came up:

And I thought, Ohhhhhh, now I recognise it! 'Cos I had seen this cover on several blogs recently. So that decided me :-) (and the positive reviews...)

QUESTION: the one cover says Jennifer Donnelly's the author of A Gathering Light, the other cover calls it A Northern Light. Are these two covers referring to the same book?
