V is for Vicious Villain

vicious adj wicked or cruel
villain noun a cruelly malicious personwho is involved in or devoted to wickedness or crime

In real life I try not to be nasty. I mean, come on, who wants to be the mean girl? But I have to say, when it comes to writing a vicious character, it can be kind of fun ;-)

Do you have fun bringing out your vicious side when you create a villain?

  1. If I have someone who has to be vicious, I cringe and feel awful for the person being victimized. It can be so emotionally draining by the time I get through writing a scene.

  2. Love it. Especially when creating a character that says and does things I only think in my head two hours after a situation. I liken it to method acting. You get to be someone else for a few hours every day for a few months and see the world from their kick-butt view.

    Awesome post!

  3. Fairly safe with this one, I write for children so can't overdo it, and I often turn a secondary villain into a comic turn for light relief.

  5. It all depends on the type of villain. IF it's like a cruelly Deville type .... DEFINITELY... but if it's like a psychotic character abusing another, not so much.

  13. It's definitely fun to write the villain. Also a great way to get out your stresses and aggression. I always enjoyed playing the villain in school performances, as well.

Good luck with the remainder of the A to Z Challenge!

  14. I get carried away sometimes when I write for my villains. I either have to temper in more anger, violence, and darkness through the rest of the book or tone in down a bit.
